A well-recognized sight in the Canadian North, all across Canada and around the World - the Inuksuk (Inuksuit for plural; Inukshuk in English) is a symbol traditional to the culture of Inuit, and other peoples of the Arctic. Coming from the Inuktitut language, 'inuksuk' means 'to act in the capacity of a human', with the stone figures having been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache, for example.
